What is the admission process?
We have streamlined our admissions process to be entirely online for your convenience. Once you express interest, we will send you a link to create your Line Leader account. Through this account, you can pay either the enrollment queue of $200 or the registration fee of $400. (These fees are non-refundable.)
- Enrollment Queue: If a spot is not currently available or if the desired start date is further out, we encourage families to join our queue by paying the $200 fee.
- Registration: If a spot is available, you can secure your child’s enrollment for a specific start date by paying the full registration fee of $400.
- After securing your spot, we will email you the necessary online forms. These forms must be completed prior to your child’s first day.
What type of security is in place at the facility?
At our school, we prioritize security through a comprehensive set of measures designed to keep our students, staff, and visitors safe:
Personalized Security: Each family receives a unique door code, ensuring that only authorized individuals can access the building.
Limited Access Window: Door codes are functional only for 1.5 hours in the morning and 1.5 hours in the afternoon, limiting entry times.
Over 35 Cameras: The building is monitored by a network of more than 35 cameras, providing continuous coverage and ensuring the safety of everyone on the premises.
Panic Button Accessibility: Panic buttons are installed in every classroom, office, and downstairs area. Pressing a panic button locks all doors and alerts authorities immediately, enabling a rapid response to emergencies.
Name-to-Face Attendance: A name-to-face attendance check is conducted whenever there is a change in location, ensuring all children are accounted for at all times.
What are school hours?
The Discovery Preschools are open year-round, Monday through Friday, from 6:30 AM to 6 PM. We are closed on Labor Day, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving at 12 PM, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve at 3 PM, Christmas Day, December 26, New Year’s Eve at 3 PM, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Good Friday at 12 PM, and 3 In-Service Days.
How big are class sizes?
Class sizes vary depending on age, teacher to student ratio, and classroom square footage.
- Infants (under 1 year): 1 staff per 4 children
- Young toddlers (1-2 years): 1 staff per 5 children
- Older toddlers (2-3 years): 1 staff per 6 children
- Preschoolers (3-4 years): 1 staff per 10 children
- Pre-kindergarten (4-5 years): 1 staff per 10 children
How do you determine class placement?
At our school, class placement is determined based on the child’s age as of September 1st. This means that children are grouped into classes with peers who are of similar age, ensuring that they are developmentally aligned with their classmates.
By using the September 1st cutoff date, we create a consistent and predictable system for class placements, allowing for a smooth progression through the school year. This approach helps us to better meet the educational and social needs of each child, providing an environment where they can thrive alongside peers at a similar stage of development.
What Enrichment Activities are included with tuition?
All activities are inclusive, with the exception of swim lessons and private soccer lessons, which are offered selectively at certain locations. All other activities, including STEAM, cooking, yoga, and music are part of the package.
How often do teachers communicate with parents?
At our school, we believe in keeping the lines of communication open and consistent. Here’s how we stay connected:
- Daily Communication: We maintain constant communication through our app and during drop-off and pick-up times. Parents receive daily updates and pictures throughout the day.
- Parent-Teacher Conferences: Twice a year, we have dedicated conferences to discuss your child’s progress in detail. You can also always request a meeting at any time!
- Still need to chat? You can schedule touch bases anytime throughout the year or call us at any time!
What if my child has unique learning needs?
We understand that every child is unique and our classes cater to this individuality. With tailor-made programs, children are exposed to an environment that challenges their curiosity, strengthens their self-discipline, and nurtures their social skills. This includes focused learning, a diverse curriculum, and an environment designed to ensure your child’s safety and care.
What is the best age to start preschool?
Although experts recommend that children begin preschool between the ages of 2.5 and 4, The Discovery Preschool provides a nurturing learning environment for children as young as 6 weeks old.
Our early education curriculum fosters curiosity, equips children with structured learning experiences, and prepares them for social interactions from a young age by caring for each child in every stage of early development.
What type of meals and snacks are provided?
Complimentary breakfast, lunch, and a snack are provided to each child daily. Meals created by a registered dietician are prepared fresh daily on-site, and milk is offered with each meal.
All meal options are made with fresh ingredients, nutritionally balanced, and appropriately portioned for growing bodies. There are alternative options for breakfast and lunch daily.
At our school, we prioritize accommodating specific dietary restrictions through inclusive meal planning and a range of options that cater to different needs. A vegetarian option is always available as a standard alternative, and families receive the menu in advance to review and make necessary adjustments. We encourage families to supplement meals with food from home if needed, and we consistently offer “That’s It” bars as a backup snack. Open communication between families and staff is essential, and we are committed to being flexible and responsive to ensure all children are well-nourished and safe.
Do you accept subsidized tuition payments or ELRC funding?
The Discovery Preschools proudly accepts subsidy tuition payments, ensuring accessibility for all families. However, we do collect the difference between our tuition rates and the amount covered by the subsidy agency. This policy helps us maintain the high quality of care and education we provide to each child.
