Welcome Summer: A Season of Discovery, Growth, and Fun!

As the days get longer and the weather gets warmer, we are excited to welcome summer at The Discovery Preschools! Summer is a wonderful time for children to explore, play, and learn in new ways. While many people think of summer as a break from learning, young children continue to grow and develop through meaningful experiences every day.

Why Summer Learning Matters

Research shows that children learn best when they are actively engaged in hands-on experiences. Summer provides countless opportunities for children to build important skills through play, exploration, and social interactions.

At The Discovery Preschools, our summer program is designed to encourage:

  • Physical Development through outdoor play, water activities, movement games, and gross motor challenges.
  • Social-Emotional Growth as children build friendships, practice cooperation, and gain confidence in new situations.
  • Language and Literacy Skills through stories, songs, conversations, and creative storytelling.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving through science experiments, sensory exploration, and open-ended activities.
  • Creativity and Imagination through art, dramatic play, music, and hands-on projects.

The Importance of Outdoor Play

Summer gives us more opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, and outdoor play is much more than just fun. Time outside helps children:

  • Strengthen muscles and coordination
  • Develop balance and body awareness
  • Improve attention and focus
  • Reduce stress and support emotional well-being
  • Explore nature and the world around them

Whether children are running, digging, building, observing insects, or participating in water play, they are learning valuable skills that support their overall development.

Making the Most of Summer at Home

Parents can support learning all summer long through simple everyday experiences:

  • Take nature walks and talk about what you see.
  • Read together every day, even if it’s just for a few minutes.
  • Let children help with cooking and measuring ingredients.
  • Encourage outdoor exploration and imaginative play.
  • Ask open-ended questions that spark curiosity and conversation.

Remember, learning doesn’t always look like worksheets or structured lessons. Some of the most meaningful learning happens through play, exploration, and family experiences.

Looking Ahead

We have an exciting summer planned filled with engaging activities, special events, outdoor adventures, water play, creative projects, and opportunities for discovery. We can’t wait to see the growth, friendships, and memorable moments that this season will bring.

Thank you for being part of The Discovery Preschools community. We look forward to partnering with you throughout the summer as we create a season filled with learning, laughter, and discovery.

Here’s to a safe, happy, and fun-filled summer!

Happy Summer from all of us at The Discovery Preschools!
